EVA Airways Corporation or EVA Air is a Taiwanese airline based in Taoyuan, Taiwan. It has passenger operations and cargo services to 40 international destinations. Its hub is at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport with focus cities Kaohsiung International Airport and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. 

EVA Air was founded in 1989 as an affiliate of the Evergreen Group and since then it expanded its operations to include airline catering, ground handling, aviation engineering services and air cargo. Its affiliate is UNI Air, another airline that services the domestic market as well as some destinations around East Asia and Southeast Asia.

EVA Air’s initial flights commenced in 1991 offering business and economy classes to destinations that include Bangkok, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta. It continued to add up more destinations in the following years. In 2007, the airline has flown 6.2 million passengers and employed around 4,800 by 2008. It was awarded by Skytrax as Best Premium Economy Class in 2008.

Its slogan is “Just relax, your home in the air.”

Domestic and International Destinations

EVA Air fleet size is 53, a combination of McDonnell Douglas, Airbus and Boeing aircraft. It flies to 47 destinations worldwide particularly to Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.

In Taiwan it operates flights to Kaoshiung and Taipei with additional destinations provided by its subsidiary, UNI Air.

Internationally, EVA Air has flight services to Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Kumming, Macau, Shanghai and Shenzen in People’s Republic of China; Fukuoka, Komtasu, Miyazaki, Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo, Sendai and Nagoya in Japan; Seoul in South Korea; Delhi in India; Phnom Penh in Cambodia; Denpasar, Jakarta and Surabaya in Indonesia; Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia; Manila in the Philippines; Singapore; Bangkok in Thailand; Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam; Dubai in United Arab Emirates; Vienna in Austria; Brussels in Belgium; Paris in France; Frankfurt in Germany; Amsterdam in Netherlands; London in United Kingdom; Vancouver in Canada; Anchorage, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, New York, San Francisco and Seattle in United States; and Brisbane in Australia.

Travel Classes and In-flight Services

There are three classes in EVA Air’s long haul flights namely, Premium Laurel (also known as the business class), Elite Class (or the premium economy) and Economy Class. The cabins have features such as AVOD (audio/video on demand), mood lighting and sms service. The domestic or short-haul flights on the other hand have business class as well.

Every passenger in all classes will enjoy EVA Air’s AVOD entertainment system called the Star Gallery. The system features movies, music and interactive games. Programming is mainly in Mandarin and English and in selected flights, also come in French, German and Japanese.

If you want to check out duty-free items, a brochure is provided for every passenger’s shopping convenience. EVA Air’s in-flight magazine, VERVE, is also provided if you want to read the latest in travel.

There are a variety of meals served on international flights. Both Western and Eastern menus are offered and so are special meals for those who have medical, religious or cultural concerns. Gourmet entrees can be pre-ordered if you’re flying on Premium Laurel Class.
