Breaking Up Is Not Hard To Do...
How To Save On Your International Journey: Part I
Posted by: Alex Snead (Director and Founder of Jetabroad.com)
Did you know that by breaking your international itinerary into two or more parts, you could save hundreds of dollars on the cost of your flights?
In the travel business, airports such as London, Los Angeles, Singapore and Bangkok are known as 'gateways' - busy connecting airports that many carriers fly to and from. With so many airlines flying in and out, you're quite likely to find a good fare to or from one of these ports.
However, if your final destination is Las Vegas, you're more likely to find a cheap deal if you book your ticket to Los Angeles separately from the Los Angeles to Las Vegas fare. This does not necessarily mean you have to book twice or that you have to book through two agents. It simply means that your ticket has two components: one to the gateway destination and another to the final port - so that each leg of the journey is booked at the lowest possible price.
You may think your agent is getting you the best fare, but that may not always be the case. For example, travelling to Prague or Berlin, you could save yourself hundreds of dollars by flying from Sydney to Frankfurt with Qantas or Lufthansa, then using a discount carrier such as Air Berlin to fly you on to your ultimate European destination. Many countries have cheap domestic airlines and fares that travel agents simply aren't aware of.
If all this sounds complicated, don't worry - Jetabroad does the work for you! Just go online to www.jetabroad.com and you'll find fantastic international airfares - cheaper than the standard published ones, because we give you the options other agents don't. Our powerful search engine identifies more ways for you to get to your destination - so you're more likely to find the right flight at the right price!
Example: Breaking a journey
Say you are traveling from Sydney to Austin (20-27 November 2005) and you want an all-oneworld itinerary. Qantas and American Airlines are your two choices.
American Airlines' lowest published airfare including all taxes and fees is $3067.82. Qantas' equivalent airfare is $3085.82.
Yet by purchasing two separate segments on American Airlines - the first from Sydney to Los Angeles and the second from Los Angeles to Austin, you would pay $2293.12, saving you almost $800 on American's lowest published fare Sydney to Austin!
At Jetabroad, we know the travel industry inside out. We constantly work to find the best way to help you reach your destination, so you save time and money.
